Students may request scholarship reconsideration for academic purposes or if documented extenuating circumstances have affected their eligibility. This includes new scholarship offers or renewals. Requests are reviewed individually and approval is not guaranteed.
⚠️ Important Information for Incoming First Year Students
Requests for scholarship reconsideration are not available for the Presidential Scholarship or the Regents Scholarship. These awards follow separate selection and review processes and are not eligible for reconsideration. Please note that reconsideration reviews will begin March 1, 2026 to allow time for February ACT scores and the deadline is April 15, 2026.
Who May Request Scholarship Reconsideration
Incoming Students
You may request a scholarship reconsideration if you experienced significant or unusual circumstances that affected your academic performance or your ability to be fully considered during the selection process. If approved, you may be offered a new scholarship or a replacement scholarship.
Continuing Students
You may request scholarship reconsideration if you did not meet renewal criteria due to documented extenuating circumstances. If approved, you may be able to continue on scholarship probation and must meet specified conditions to maintain eligibility or be allowed a scholarship leave of absence.
Scholarships Standards and Renewal Expectations
Scholarships are designed to support students who demonstrate continued academic progress and success. Renewal criteria generally include:
- Qualitative standard: Minimum cumulative GPA.
- Quantitative standard: Satisfactory credit completion and progress toward degree.
Most renewable scholarships require completion of at least 24 credit hours during the fall and spring terms of the academic year in which the scholarship is received at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, regardless of prior credits or transfer credits earned. These standards help ensure you remain on track academically and graduate in a timely manner.
Scholarship Reconsideration Process
To submit a request for scholarship reconsideration, provide brief written statement (no more than one page) explaining:
- The circumstances that prevented you from qualifying or renewing,
- Why those circumstances were beyond your control, and
- The steps you have taken to address or resolve the situation.
Include any relevant documentation that supports your request. Additional details include:
- Requests are reviewed by a committee on a case-by-case basis.
- Only complete requests are reviewed.
- The committee may request additional information.
- Reviews can take several weeks.
- Decisions are final and not subject to further review for the academic year.
- Students whose requests are not approved may meet with a Husker Hub specialist for personalized support and other funding options.
Probationary Period
If approved, students may be placed on a probationary period with specific conditions. Requirements and timelines vary depending on individual circumstances.
