Nebraska Emerging Leaders Scholarship Guidelines 2018-2019

These terms and requirements are effective for Nebraska Emerging Leaders Scholarships awarded to new freshmen for the 2018-2019 academic year and subsequent years.
1

The Nebraska Emerging Leaders Scholarship provides $2,000 per year toward the cost of UNL undergraduate tuition for up to four consecutive years.

2

Renewal of this scholarship for each subsequent year is dependent upon the recipient maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.500.  Renewal determinations are made at the end of each spring semester.  The University computes grade point averages to three decimal places and does not round.

3

The recipient must enroll full-time (at least 12 UNL credit hours) during each semester of the academic year (fall and spring semesters).  These hours must be officially registered by the sixth day of classes each semester.

4

The recipient must successfully complete 24 UNL credit hours each academic year (fall and spring semesters). Successful completion is defined as the sum of all UNL credit hours completed with a grade of A through D- or Pass (P). Grades of I, N, W, F, and NR are not considered successfully completed. Repeated courses will only count once.

5

The recipient must participate in a retention program, which may include enrollment and participation in a weekly zero-credit course and regular meetings with a UNL retention specialist. Recipients will receive further information at a later time regarding retention program requirements.

6

The scholarship will be discontinued if the recipient withdraws from school or fails to register for consecutive semesters, unless an exception is granted because of extenuating circumstances.

7

The sum of $1,000 will be credited to the recipient's student account and will appear on his or her billing statement.  Any student whose total scholarship and/or financial aid awards exceed his or her total institutional charges for a given semester will receive a refund for the difference from the Office of Student Accounts.

8

The scholarship cannot be used for non-credit courses or non-term specific correspondence courses.  Recipients cannot combine this award with the benefit of any other tuition benefit or waiver from federal, state, or University sources (e.g., Employee Dependent Waiver).  The scholarship cannot be used for courses taken at UNO, UNK or UNMC.

9

The scholarship cannot be used for non-credit courses or non-term specific correspondence courses.

10

Recipients can combine this award with the Canfield Scholarship or the Nebraska Achievement $1,000 Scholarship, but this award cannot be combined with any other All-University renewable scholarship (i.e., Nebraska Achievement Tuition Scholarship, Regents Scholarship, Health Sciences Scholarship, or David Distinguished Scholarship). This scholarship can be combined with college or departmental scholarships, or leadership scholarships.

11

The Nebraska Achievement Scholarship may be applied toward University of Nebraska-Lincoln approved education abroad programs and other inter-institutional cooperative programs, provided the student receives prior approval from the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
